Witnessing his daughter walking on a path to self-destruction, Rocket helped N.J. convert her anger into focus, training her in nearly every fighting art he knew. A natural despite her disposition, N.J. absorbed the skills she was taught, and her frown gradually became a straight line. Admiring her father's dedication, she left the gang, deciding it was better to prevent trouble, rather than cause it. With help from her boyfriend Nick (Blitz McFang), who was under the tutelage of Rocket, N.J. began her superheroine story as Nyne - what neighborhood peers nicknamed her due to her striking ability which, they felt was equivalent to the 9mm beretta of legend. Not long after grasping the fundamentals of heroism, Nyne became a force to be reckoned with, building a reputation within local villain circles as a true threat with the skills to back it up. This success encouraged Nyne's cousin Dynamo, who was living with her at the time, to request her membership in the upstart "Second Generation" super team...which Nyne nonchalantly accepted.

Nyne possesses the power of explosion, an offshoot of Rocket's propulsion powers, so like her father, she currently wears two gauntlets - designed by the esteemed inventor Timic, to concentrate her ability. While wearing the gauntlets, Nyne is capable of directing the destructive force of her powers into her fists, which much like proximity mines, explode on contact. Unlike Rocket however, Nyne has not mastered her powers without the gauntlets. Minus the gear, her blast radius increases dramatically, and risks harm to anyone unfortunate enough to be nearby. Nyne is also an expert in hand-to-hand combat, and while capable of fighting with her legs, she prefers the former. This ability is enhanced by her own natural accuracy boost inherited from her mother Jenni, which allows her to control her fighting techniques with unparalleled precision.
