Penny McCallister was born in the small town of Crimson Harbor, Alterjenova, a region of the Alterrian continent of Brigadia. Her parents, politicians Henry and Wendy McCallister, divorced when she was 5 years old, and as a result, she wound up with her father, who moved to Neo Nightdyne City. He settled in Sector B, an upscale part of the city, and enrolled Penny into a nearby private school. Due to his line of work, Henry was constantly busy, neglecting her - angering her. Taking her frustration out on the school, Penny managed to set it ablaze on a Sunday, burning the school to the ground. Unfortunately, there was a witness, and the police were called. As a result, not only was Penny expelled, but her father gained horrible press from the incident, which greatly affected his reputation. In a fit of rage, he threw Penny out in the street. She looked, and looked, but no one would take her in. That changed, when Penny suddenly found shelter with the family of the private school's A/V teacher: Mr. Orpin.

Soon after, the principal of the school, Ms. Destine requested to meet with Penny in private. That day, Ms. Destine saw that the Penny who spent days in her office for misbehavior, was a changed girl in the Orpin family's care. She then asked Penny why she started the blaze, because according to Destine - it was "a spectacular work of art". Penny was confused by the statement, until the woman revealed her name wasn't Ms. Destine at all...and she wasn't even human. Fear gripped Penny, as the woman revealed herself to be Queen Castraxa, the demonic wife of King Armageddon. With a flick of her wrist, she removed whatever good the girl had in her soul, leaving only the darkness Penny tried so hard to diminish. Afterward, the Queen referred to the blaze again, and chose it as the moment to define the newly-manipulated Penny, granting her the power to wield flame at her will. Satisfied with her work, the Queen vanished, leaving "Infernica" in her wake. Now, a vessel of raging hatred, anything that can burn, will.

Infernica's fire powers are of Castraxan mystical origin, meaning they can only be activated with the intent of wreaking pure, unabridged havoc. The structure of her flames change in conjunction with her disposition, as in, the angrier she becomes, the more unstable her flames become as well. The exact intensity at which Infernica's flames can burn is unknown, due to their consistent yellowish coloring, but her flame is so potent that it can set normally flame-retardant surfaces such as concrete, ablaze. In addition to those flames, Infernica's left eye, when opened, serves as a thermal scope, allowing her to detect anything that emits heat from a distance. She can also hurl fireballs with great speed and precision, thanks to her time as a pitcher on her old school's baseball team. Also, contrary to the harm her opponents feel from such fiery offense, Infernica herself is completely flame-resistant like the Castraxan mystics before her, with or without the activation of her powers.
