In Riverville, being the son of Kato Castraxa is a curse. Everyone knows what your father does, and as a result, everyone is afraid to associate with you. Hector Castraxa's childhood was shaped by these conditions, and as a result, he resented his father to no end. With no interest in inheriting the evil Nine Core corporation from Kato, Hector was not the model son his father hoped for. Instead of being a part of his cursed lineage, Hector wanted nothing more than to live a normal life - an ambition his parents strictly forbade. Seeing it was not in his best interest to remain a loyal member of the family, he took a gamble. With the clothes on his back and a bag of bottled waters, he abandoned the Castraxa Complex and wandered throughout Riverville, looking for a more enjoyable purpose than what his lineage provided. Unbeknownst to Hector, Kato watched him leave from atop the complex. He could have easily stopped his son from leaving, yet, he did absolutely nothing...convincing himself that Hector was a failure, and he could find a more suitable heir.

Hector never spoke to his father again, and even if he wanted to, he would have never had the chance: The Castraxa family was vanquished by a motley group of heroes after resurrecting their patriarch, King Armaggeddon, to destroy the world and reshape it in his image. Embarrassed by his family, Hector began to go by the name "Demon", to distance himself from them. It is under this alias, that he decided to do what no Castraxan had ever done - be a superhero. Without hesitation, he registered for Arctica Academy, the superhero training school run by his father's arch-nemesis, Zero. However, after dealing with the Castraxas for decades, Zero was not fooled. Despite his hatred for the Castraxa bloodline, and seeing the determination in the kid's eyes, Zero took Demon in and helped him hone his powers...and kept his true identity a secret from the other students. Students, that included his #1 pupil, Rex Pendragon. The two were good friends for awhile...until one day, after having learned what he wanted, Demon disappeared. Little did Rex know, the two would meet again.

As a member of the Castraxa bloodline, Demon's hellacious powers are of Castraxan mystical origin, meaning they can only be activated with the intent of wreaking pure, unabridged havoc. Like his father, Demon is a master of shadow manipulation, capable of animating any nearby shadow with a malicious thought. Once animated, the shadows can physically interact with the real world. In addition to this power, Demon can also summon flames from within his body. While not as great of a magnitude as his grandfather, the flames spread unusually far from their source, and will indiscriminately harm anyone unfortunate enough to be in their vicinity. Demon is also a decent street fighter due to his time spent in the Riverville underground.
